The HardRider Turbo Machine: Power and Affordability Combined
HardRider Motorcycle has earned a reputation for building high-performance turbo bikes that don't break the bank. Known for innovative designs in making turbo bikes “streetable”, HardRider uses a custom exhaust fitment and ensures bikes run cool enough utilizing the stock oil cooler and rad. Some riders just buy an xyz turbo kit and put it on, not really aware they are eliminating the oil cooler. But not in our case. Safety first, we do not eliminate oil coolers just to fit the turbo, all of our turbos use the stock oil cooler and rad.
One day, a rider named Alex sent an email to HardRider that started a chain of events. Alex had a dream of owning a turbocharged motorcycle but he didn’t think his old Suzuki Bandit would ever cut the grade and didn’t want to shell out for another bike. He was also worried about the steep costs often associated with such high-performance machines. Little did Alex know, HardRider was about to turn that dream into reality.
Early Discussions
Alex had discussions with Art at HardRider and soon enough, things started moving forward. Alex was delighted when he found out he could put a turbo on his old 2000 Bandit, topped off by better than expected prices. Alex was amazed at just how affordable getting into a turbo was going to be for him, half the price he expected using his very own and quite old (2000) every day rider.
"We believe that everyone deserves to experience the thrill of a turbocharged motorcycle," Art said. "We've developed a way to build powerful, reliable, and affordable turbo motorcycles without compromising on quality."
The Learning Process
Alex was amazed by the information that he was hearing. He learned about the Proboost Street Kit and Proboost Race Kit, but chose the Street Kit because he wanted to commute with the bike. He felt the Street Kit was the best fit.
A HardRider designed “Street Turbo” bike would be best served with an exhaust and slip on for street and highway use. This was news to Alex, because in all his research he thought all turbo bikes used the the same kind of short side vented pipes and he never thought about how a turbo would affect the bike in highway riding.
Art explained that HardRider turbo bikes use Proboost Turbo Systems that have been in business for over 25 years and they have tremendous experience with customers, some having over 100,000km on their turbos. One of the key benefits of the ProBoost system is that they are designed to bolt on and keep the original oil cooler and radiators.
Alex was amazed to hear all this helpful information. It made him feel more confident in buying from HardRider, particularly knowing Proboost turbos had been in business for over 25 years and that all their ProBoost turbos use the bike’s oil cooler. It made perfect sense that if the engine oil was used to cool/lube the turbo, an oil cooler would be needed.
Check this video on what happens when oil gets overheated. This is a generic video, so do not be alarmed by the severe warning and keep in mind it’s a video aimed at the auto markets. We have found that the stock oil cooler as long as its in good condition is fine. Although we do stock new replacement oil coolers and have heavy duty oil versions for people that are pushing their turbo almost all the time.
